DENPASAR, BALI (4 October 2021) – The Marine Guard Foundation, an environmental organization, was introduced at the Inna Sindhu Beach Resort, Sanur, South Denpasar, on Monday morning (October 4, 2021). “Hopefully, with the inauguration of this foundation, we can motivate and encourage the wider community to become more concerned about the conservation of Indonesia’s marine environment, especially in Bali,” said IB Nararya Primastana Adnyana, Chairman of the Marine Guard Foundation.

The Marine Guard Foundation initially began as a group of students from various educational backgrounds who were aware of the importance of preserving marine life. Various activities have been carried out since 2019, including rescuing stranded animals, releasing turtle hatchlings, and conducting beach clean-up activities, with support from several other conservation organizations.

The foundation’s management involves six core administrators and 41 members, primarily students from Udayana University and one alumnus from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.

“This foundation works to protect marine biota and ecosystems so that in the future, the preservation of marine life and its ecosystems remains intact, benefiting the wider community,” emphasized IB Nararya Primastana Adnyana, commonly known as Gus Prim.

The inauguration of the Marine Guard Foundation was marked by a clean-up activity around Sindhu Beach and the release of Olive Ridley sea turtle hatchlings (Lepidochelys olivacea). “In the near future, the foundation has designed a work program with the mission of marine conservation through research, education, and the rescue of marine animals,” said Gus Prim.

The inauguration was also attended by representatives from the Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) Bali, members of the Bali Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), members of the Denpasar City DPRD, and environmental activist communities such as Malu Dong Buang Sampah Sembarangan and Trash Hero Indonesia.
